Another day, another view of the breakfast sideboard. Breakfast today was two eggs, but I went outside of my comfort range and had them poached! Instead of an English muffin, I just had a slice of bread toasted. Watch out, I am beginning to walk on the wild side! Another lunch by myself, but the table was placed at an angle. Staff must have sensed that I was going to be adventurous for the day! More yummy chips, salsa, and sour cream. For some reason no guacamole. I had the chicken Caesar salad again. Surprise, surprise I also ordered fries!This is the view of another beautiful sunset that we had. First canapé was quail eggs. I didn’t have my reading glasses on and thought the dish had a brown dip in it. Instead it was celery salt! Quite the surprise. One of the guides raises quail for bird shooting and he sells some of the eggs. Here is the trio of Dutches County residents. No names, but his initials are TB. I am holding someone else’s drink as I don’t drink regular martinis! We also had beef tartare on toast. We had a small group at dinner tonight. Sometimes there are over 20 at dinner! The young man at the end was on his first bone fishing trip. As Max, the manager was off for the night, I filled in the spot as host/hostess for the evening. I sat at the other end of the table. LH was just accepted into William and Mary Law School, so we made a toast in his honor also! Our starter was grilled peaches and goat cheese. I love peaches and Steve doesn’t really care for fruit so I got to have a double portion of peaches! Yay! Steve and I both had the Osso Bucco. It was good but not as good as the Osso Bucco that I make! Steve says no one makes it as well as I do. I follow the Marcella Hazan recipe.The evening’s dessert was pot au chocolate with tangerine creme fraiche. I prefer whipped cream, as I don’t like the sourness of creme fraiche.
Steve’s day fishing was very successful. He went to a secret spot and caught a barracuda and six bone fish. Here is a picture of one of them held by Steve’s guide Robin.
After my road trip to Junin de los Andes with Kevin, we returned to the lodge and had another lovely lunch under the pergola. We started with a lovely salad of fresh greens, cheese, some Parma ham and then a light drizzle of Balsamic vinegar.
Next course was a bit of beef, with carrots and potatoes.
Dessert was a delightful mint mousse with a topping of dark chocolate. Very refreshing. I should have switched my dessert with the guest next to me, as her dessert didn’t have a bumpy top!
We had some new guests join us, a couple from Washington State, and a beautiful blonde with great posture who was a travel advisor. The previous day we had a lovely couple arrive from Atlanta. It is always easier to remember new names of guests when they arrive only two at a time! I have learned to use my Notes function on my iPhone. I write the names of the guests down right away and where they are fun. Otherwise the names go flying right back out of my mind.
We relaxed the rest of the day until evening.
Steve had found that the fishing was best the last hour of the day. He is always trying to get me to go fishing with him. When everyone asks me if I fish, I say that “I never want to come between Steve and a fish!”. I don’t want that big fish to take my fly instead of Steve’s.
We found some waders and shoes in the correct size for me and I geared up!
Adrian could help with my casting, and then we would hit the may fly hatch just before dark. Sunset is quite late here, that’s why dinner isn’t until 9:30. Often guests miss out on the best fishing as their guides are in a hurry to come back in. Steve is always “One more cast!”
Here I am in the Chimehuin. Adrian is next to me, explaining the technique and where I should cast. He left me after awhile and went to where Steve was as Steve was catching fish. Adrian wanted to make sure that Steve had the European nymphing technique down pat also! I did catch a little one, and also had a fish jump near me. I lost another fish just after I set the hook. Don’t I look happy? I think I really look like I know what I am doing!Here are Steve and Adrian. The sun has still not set, there is lots of time left to fish.
Fishing slowed down, and my back was starting to hurt. My casting technique was for shit, I would jerk, and hurl my body causing an terrible twist to my body. I am sure it looked atrocious and Steve was probably biting his lip in laughter. I wisely decided to stop fishing until the may flies started to hatch. Adrian had brought a camp chair along, and I plopped down in it and watched Steve catch fish. I must admit that I read a little bit of one of my romance novels on my Kindle app on my phone, I am a multi task type of gal! This picture was taken at 8:29, you can see how light out it is still! Steve has always wanted to fish under a full moon, I think that would be quite exciting!
The sun soon set, and after no action at one spot, we drove to where Adrain hoped the action would be. Steve had been pretty successful the night before, during the last hour before darkness and we hoped for a good yellow may fly hatch.
The water at this next section was pretty deep and hard to wade. I would hold on to Adrian’s arm when we moved and then released my hold, settled my stance and would begin to cast. The fish were on! I caught this beautiful medium size rainbow. He sure was squiggly! I caught a much larger fish also, Adrain thought he was 16 inches, a nice size fish. Of all the fish that day, my 16 incher was the largest. Steve of course had the most fish for the evening.
Steve did catch some bigger fish during the week. We will have to wait for the total numbers for Steve’s fishing at Tipiliuke, in my wrap up posting for the trip. I think he caught over 75 in total! None that were trophy size, but he had a lot of action. The goal was for him to catch a fish in February and one in March, so we were halfway to the goal! All the meals at Tipiliuke were posted on the blackboard. Here is the menu for our final night. The spinach with egg was piping hot, and delicious! Next up was the homemade spaghetti. Final course was the fruit crisp with vanilla ice cream.
Steve and I wished everyone a good night and it was off to bed. Unfortunately I forgot that it was our last night and I did not get a chance to say good bye to Mary Jo.
Kevin and Mary Jo split their coverage at the Estancia. Kevin is there all day long, eating lunch with the guests and guides. Mary Jo has the late afternoon and evening shift, eating dinner with the guests. They are never sick, and never tire of meeting the guests and being with them. They have run lodges for over 25 years, and been at Tipiluke for over 20! During the off season Kevin is a ski instructor at Chapelco in St. Martin de los Andes.

This is Tipiliuke Lodge. There are nine rooms available for guests to stay in. This is the living room where you might relax in the afternoon or chat before dinner. Here is another place to sit if there is no room in the living room. Many of the guides would sit here while waiting for the anglers to finish up their breakfast before a day of fishing.Would you like to see our room? It’s just down the hallway. Come along!
Room is not in pristine condition as we have started to spread our stuff out already. Here we see Steve doing his unpacking. My Harlequin novel is sitting on the bed stand. I have been doing so much posting that I haven’t been able to do any reading at all! The things I give up for you!
Finally the other side of the room. Don’t you love that hat? I hope it doesn’t get seriously smashed during this vacation. Here we have the bathroom. No toiletries spread out yet! This is the toilet, bidet, and tub with shower. The faucets for the shower were on the side wall, and not the front of the tub. I am used to turning on the water from the front of the shower, and in reaching across to turn on the diverter to make it a shower. When I did that, I would get my head drenched every time. Finally the third time I took the shower I got the bright idea to turn on the taps from the other side of the curtain. Voila! I didn’t get drenched! Fishing for Steve was to start tomorrow so we decided to go for a horse back ride. Steve’s horse appears to be camera shy. Either that or he is giving us the side eye! That is Tipiliuke in the background. No, I will not be climbing it! All that you can see is part of the ranch. After our ride we went on a tour of the property in one of the Lodge’s trucks, this is Chimehuin River. We could see some fish rising. Steve is showing exactly where the currents were going and bringing insects to the lurking trout. Will he catch any fish tomorrow when he goes out? I sure hope so! This bridge was built just after World War One. It was really bumpy! Here is our obligatory “snatch a kiss” in the snap shot! You’d think we were quite in love, wouldn’t you! Well we are, at least I hope Steve thinks so too! Here we are driving over the bridge. The back side!We continue driving as we are going to see the sun set. The scenery is just gorgeous. Here is Maru and Steve. I’m looking for a husband for her. She is going to her sister’s wedding this weekend. There are supposed to be 400 guests. I told her that I was praying that she would meet her special someone there!
Steve looks deliriously happy. He is going fishing tomorrow. The water looks excellent, and the scenery is gorgeous. What could be better? This is Tipiliuke, in the far back you can see Volcano Lanin. It is 12,000 feet high. I won’t be climbing that either! Here we are at sunset. It looks like I am getting some heavenly rays sent to me. I wish I could post the video here, of the 360 degree view, but the bandwidth is poor. We will have to wait until I come back home. One last kiss and it is time to go back to the lodge to shower and change for dinner.Pisco Sour time! It’s not as good as Julio’s at Coyhaique River Lodge in Chile, but it will do. We enjoyed empanadas before dinner. Meat and vegetable were available. This is the interior of the meat empanada. First course was a salad. Dinner here is very late, about 9 or even later. Lunch is a big meal of the day. It is served about 2:30. Fishing runs from 9 until 1, we then have lunch and rest in the afternoon. Then those who fish go our at 6 and fish again. Steve says fishing is always best just after sunset. Did I show you how fun the chair cushions are? They were so soft! We were having so much fun at dinner, that I asked Kevin the manager to take a picture of our table. So he did! Kevin is such a wise guy! Here is our table. Next to Steve is Martin from Germany, and his wife is Sybil, she is sitting across from him. The next couple is Maya and Jeraldo. In the middle is Mary Jo, she is married to Kevin. Kevin and Mary Jo run the place. They are amazing. So much energy, and love for what they are doing. They have been managing Tipiluike for 20 years. Maya and Jeraldo are not married. We were all trying to get them engaged. I even took off my fake diamond so Jeraldo could use it but no dice! Since it was last night for Martin and Sybil, and Maya and Jeraldo,a bottle of champagne was brought to the table. I even took off my ring and put it in Maya’s champagne glass so Jeraldo could surprise Maya! (Although I was announcing the whole time what I was doing,so it wasn’t a surprise at all!) Martin gave a tremendous toast, describing the beautiful chapel on property, and how wonderful it would be if the sweet couple got married before the night was out. We could barely breathe we were all laughing so hard. Maya posed for some fake facebook pictures of her being in shock with the diamond in her glass. Too bad I was in such hysterics I couldn’t take my Kodak moment for you! Back to some serious business, Dinner was Ravioli and sauce. Dessert was berries. Sweet dreams everyone.
What adventures would today bring? We started out with another nice breakfast. I had a cherry danish and white dragon fruit.
We each had two cappuccinos.
Steve had an omelette.
I had the French toast with passion fruit curd, banana and coffee nectar. Have you ever had coffee nectar? I couldn’t really taste the coffee.
Instead of a massage, I decided to explore the fruit plate. I thought the pear shaped ones were interesting.
Unfortunately they were not very tasty. Wet, but no flavor. I have no idea what they were.The little nut one was very goopy, I think that it was past its prime.
Steve went to the spa and had a deep tissue massage and a half hour facial. He had never had a facial before. I told him that he looks ten years younger! Ha ha!
Days that Steve doesn’t fish he gets a little bored. So after his massage we ordered a Caesar salad delivered to the room. Now room service is something that I NEVER do, but Steve did it, so it doesn’t count. I did share it. It was very yummy.
We asked the staff if we could bring out unopened bottle of Tattinger that was left in the room to enjoy while watching the sun set. Here’s Steve lounging already, while I am exploring the best camera angles.
There was a DJ on the beach. He picked some really soothing tracks. The music was not too loud, I complimented him on the volume and choice of songs. I told him he was a blessing, and he was quite touched. He blessed me also.
Hat and Sunglasses off, or hat and sunglasses on. Which do you prefer? I think I like the hat and sunglasses on. I look more like a movie star waiting for my closeup. Steve’s skin looks really good, doesn’t it?Here we are for the presentation of the champagne.

Good Morning! The posts will probably go faster now that I have covered the details of the grounds, spa and rooms. We won’t have many dinner pictures as they were all al fresco except for the dinner that you will read about on the 16th. I still have four days to cover until then, so hold on!
I had the full English breakfast on Saturday. This time the bacon was extra crispy as requested. We still haven’t gotten a Rosti as good as the ones at Blanket Bay in Glenorchy, New Zealand.
Steve had a dish that you would never get in a diner in the United States for breakfast. Obviously, some people thought this would be a great dish for breakfast as it was on the menu!
I though that you might be amused by these salt and pepper dishes. They crystals were so large, that you couldn’t get your food properly seasoned.
I decided to take a stroll to the gardens to observe. I was a wee bit scared to get too close to the vegetables and decided to head to the beach for a rest. This was the beach at 11:00 a.m. I remember posting on instagram saying “where is everybody?”
Soon 12:45 rolled around and it was time for me to head back to the spa for a Thai Massage. I had a Thai Massage once in Washington D.C.. It was somewhat uncomfortable, but my back and shoulders are still so tight, that I thought the stretching might help me. I was given a beautiful set of Thai pajamas to wear. This is the last time I would look so happy, until my massage was over. How was it? Let’s just say that massage did start with a soothing foot soak. Then we moved to the cushion on the floor. Unfortunately I can not lie face down for longer than five minutes before my neck and shoulders starts rebelling. So I moved to the massage table, where my head could stay cradled. The therapist did a lot of stretching. There are no oils, in a Thai massage, just firm stokes of the hand, wrist, elbows and knees. Then she asked me to flip over and lie on the floor. More stretching of body parts, that didn’t really want to go where she was trying to put them! My 90 minutes of treatment ended and I was free to go. I had originally thought to have another massage on Sunday, but we agreed that my body was going to be really sore the next day and maybe another massge would not be a good idea.
So while I had my spa treatment what was Steve doing. Well, Steve was fishing, while his guide Craig, had what is called mechanicals. Now every boat owner knows that the first day you buy your boat is the best day, and the second best day is when you sell it. There might be some good days in between when you have a great day fishing. The worst are days are mechanicals, when something goes wrong with the boat. Now Steve and the kids used to play a board game when the kids were young called ‘Fishing Time”. Most cards said, “Nice fish, two pounds, throw it in the live well. The greatest was when in you would draw a card that said that you caught the biggest fish of the day, and the game was over. Playing Fishing Time you would draw a card almost every fifth time-Go to Cranky Hank’s, which was the boat repair shop. Steve’s new boat has worked out pretty well so far but his last boat went to Cranky Hank’s too often.

Steve caught two of these yellow lipped Emperor fish. Isn’t this a beautiful fish?
In between Steve catching a fish or two, the boat motor would stall every three to five seconds. Craig surmised that “dirty fuel” was the problem. Steve thought that maybe the octane level was incorrect. No, “dirty fuel’ meant fuel that actually had sticks and grass and other junk in it. This totally screwed up the engine and Steve would not be able to go out the next day.
Steve also got a immature peacock grouper , and and another immature peacock grouper..
This picture of the fish on top is of the immature peacock grouper. The mature peacock grouper is on the bottom. They are mirror images of themselves. The adults are quite territorial and would drive the young away if they had the same colors. By looking differently as young, they are not driven away by the adults. Steve also got a lyretail grouper, but I haven’t gotten a picture of that fish yet.
While Steve fished, I rested under the Sala.
For dinner Saturday night, we decided to have a drink and watch the sunset at the bar in the Japanese restaurant, Tai. I ordered a drink that sounded right up my alley, and that looked delicious. Unfortunately it was the saltiest drink imaginable. The bar tender tried to doctor it up for me by adding sugar, but I don’t think anything would have saved it! We met a lovely couple at the bar, and had fun talking to them. They live in Dubai and also Vancouver. I had asked them about flying Emirates and Etihad, and had they ever flown in the Apartment or Residence. These are the super first class seats of those airlines, you know, the ones with the showers, and cost tens of thousand of dollars to be in. They had! Well by now, you know I was just about vibrating. I was so excited to meet actual people who had flown in these seats. They just about broke my heart when they said that the flights weren’t really that special, and a waste of money. You know me, I was hoping we would be able to see each other again the next day, I wanted to hear more stories. This was Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous in Real Life! I joked with them that Steve would be slipping them a $20 bill for telling me that the seats were not anything special, and that the Business Class seats on Qatar that we were flying were really quite nice.
Here is a picture of the sunset. People were holding the parasols so they wouldn’t be bothered by the glare. Every few minutes they would peak around the parasol and pose for selfies.
The fish were circling under the restaurant and I had to jump up to video them. I did a lot of jumping around this vacation!
I am a little leery of Japanese food. I didn’t enjoy the experience at Gili Lankanfushi at all. I have been to Japanese restaurants where they put on quite the show, with knives flying and food being tossed into pockets, hats and plates. I ordered the tempura udon soup.Steve had fried dumplings as his starter.
For dinner I had the very American grilled lamb chops with mashed potatoes and shaved apple. Have you ever eaten mashed potatoes with chop sticks? I challenge you to do so!
Steve had fried rice with wagyu beef with an egg on top. For dessert we had ice cream cones. Then off to bed, we had a big day of nothing to do but relax as the boat was busted and Steve couldn’t go fishing anymore.

Part of our arranged packaged was a sunset cruise in a Dhoni boat at Como Maalifushi. You have previously seen pictures of the dhoni boat floating calmly in the water at each of our resorts. When we arrived at the resort our itinerary only showed champagne and canapés at sunset on the beach. While Steve was off fishing and before I did my spa treatments I inquired about the discrepancy. I had brought confirmations with me in case there was a problem, and although the current packages from our travel agent as of the first of the year do not include a sunset dhoni cruise we would get one after all. So it was arranged that Friday evening would be the time of our cruise.
We arrived promptly at the beach at six, in order to board the dhoni. The marine biologist showed us to the boat. I was thinking about wearing a dress or long skirt for this festive occasion, but decided on my black Chico’s travelers pants. It was a good choice as we needed to wade to the boat to board it!
So here we are, reclining in our dhoni. Vacation hair at it’s finest!
So long Como Maalifushi! I hope that we return in time for dinner!

Me showing how shallow the boat was. I think it was about six inches deep. I have a wee bit of anxiety and was constantly trying to tell my self, “Stay in the boat, do not jump over the side. This will be over by seven.”
Here you also see my three carat fake diamond ring. When traveling not only do I like to stay at places nicer than my house, I like to wear big diamonds. I got this one at Home Goods/Marshalls.
Now our captain was getting even more bored. I think he was checking the cricket box scores.
The sun was starting to get lower and we started to turn around and head back. Our Tattinger and canapés remained untouched.
“Steve, do you think you should ask the captain if we should open the champagne?” I was nervous about this, as every time we adjusted ourselves on our cushions the boat rocked.
Yes yes. Can’t you dolts tell that I am busy with the boat? This is something that I spoke with management after the cruise. If the marine biologist at the launch had told us to serve ourselves we would have. We were waiting for instructions.
So what was inside the containers? Fried vegetarian spring rolls with Saucy Susan sauce.
Cheese, nuts, fruit and bread. And of course the Tattinger’s.Here is my he man. He is giving me quite the saucy look isn’t he?

Saucy thoughts over, Steve contemplates all of the beautiful fish that he caught. He is also thinking about the next days fishing.
In case we would have problems this boat would have rescued us.
Safely back to the resort, Steve says lets go to dinner!

When we got off the boat, we met a family of Canadians who were inquiring about the dhoni boat ride. They were enjoying their last sunset. They had a long way home tomorrow! They had been at Como Maalifushi for two weeks. Two adults and two teenagers. The daughter looked happy, the son looked like he was eager to get home to his friends. Imagine their bill!
I told them all about it, and then mentioned the couple I saw earlier getting their pictures taken with all sorts of poses. So here I am with my fancy posing of us with a half empty bottle of Tattinger. Steve looks so happy and relaxed.
I had to do one last pose of us kissing. The gentleman taking the picture said “That was more like you kissing him!” He was right! I’m a tad aggressive! I do need to work on the gut sucking in, and proper bottle turn for optimal label placement, though!

The Madi Restaurant all lit up at dinner. It was really romantic.
That night Madi had a special seafood buffet dinner. We ate from the regular menu as we didn’t feel like paying the $65 per person up-charge. I took a picture for you of the seafood, it did look really good!
Last photo of the day was Steve letting one of his fish swim away to be caught another day. That was the beautiful bluefin trevally.
